PGY-1:
Foundational training
Foundational training includes intensive care unit, internal medicine wards, cardiology, night float, infectious disease, endocrinology, and hematology/oncology rotations.
The Mercy San Juan Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program is an innovative training experience designed to cultivate clinically excellent, compassionate, and well-rounded internists who will lead the future of healthcare. As part of Dignity Health, we are a member of CommonSpirit Health's national network of more than 2,200 care sites across 24 states. That broad perspective supports our local commitment to community-based training, health equity and compassionate care. Located in Carmichael, California, Mercy San Juan Medical Center is a 385-bed, Level II Trauma Center, serving as a regional referral hub. We partner with Dignity Health Medical Foundation to deliver comprehensive primary and specialty care to the local community. Residents will graduate feeling confident, well trained, and ready to make an impact in hospital medicine, outpatient practice, or competitive subspecialty fellowships.
Welcome to Mercy San Juan Internal Medicine Residency Program, where you have the unique opportunity to pioneer a new legacy in medical education. We understand that choosing a residency is more than selecting a training program—it’s choosing where you will grow into a successful physician. At Mercy San Juan, we are building a community of compassionate and driven physicians dedicated to patients and the future of healthcare. Our training philosophy focuses on developing critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and compassionate healers. As part of the inaugural class, you will not only receive robust training but also define our program and transform our hospital’s culture of clinical excellence and scholarship. If you are seeking a program where you learn to be a clinician and develop as a physician leader, I invite you to explore our residency program and be a part of something larger than yourself.
