Creighton University East Valley Arizona Internal Medicine Residency

Chandler Regional Medical Center

Program Description

The Creighton University East Valley Arizona Internal Medicine Residency Program trains residents to become competent in the independent practice of general internal medicine and to serve as consultants to other physicians and other healthcare providers both in the ambulatory and hospital setting.

As part of Dignity Health, we are a member of CommonSpirit Health's national network of more than 2,200 care sites across 24 states. That broad perspective supports our local commitment to community-based training, health equity, and compassionate care.

Core Clinical Rotations are completed primarily at Chandler Regional Medical Center, Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, as well as with locally-based physician practices serving the Chandler, AZ community.

We strive to ensure that upon graduation, every single resident has gained foundational medical knowledge to allow them to provide competent patient care with empathy and compassion.

Welcome Message from Program Director

Curriculum

Our core curriculum is designed to ensure each resident has a foundational medical knowledge in all aspects of internal medicine. Residents are exposed to both inpatient and outpatient training to ensure comprehensive exposure.

PGY-1

Foundational training emphasizing core rotations completed annually including inpatient medicine, night float, ambulatory medicine and critical care. Additionally, residents complete emergency medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, and other subspecialties to create a robust well-rounded entry level curriculum.

PGY-2

Expanded clinical responsibility builds upon foundational skills gained in PGY1 with increased exposure to geriatrics, palliative care, hematology, oncology, neurology, nephrology and other subspecialties. Residents also have an opportunity to gain possible fellowship exposure through elective rotations.

PGY-3

Increased independent practice preparation focusing on senior-level responsibilities in core rotations. Additionally, residents rotate through infectious disease, allergy, endocrinology, and other subspecialties. Residents have a robust elective schedule allowing seniors to tailor their schedule to meet their educational needs before graduation.

Additional Curriculum Experiences

Didactics and protected education time

Enthusiastic community faculty, core faculty, and residents work together to provide weekly Academic Half Day lectures on important topics in Internal Medicine. In addition to didactics, we incorporate Journal Club, Great Debates and Grand Rounds on a monthly basis.

Night Float Call Schedule

Our program implements a night float block rotation instead of a rotating call schedule. This means you complete all your overnight calls for the year as a block allowing for better work-life balance while on inpatient rotations.

Resident Wellness

We have established a Resident run wellness program that puts together events and activities selected by the residents and for the residents. Additionally, our Wellness Director enhances activities through speakers and topics incorporated into the Academic Half Day lectures.
